University management and academic quality at a private university in Apurímac, Peru

Abstract

Academic quality in higher education is a key factor in the professional performance of graduates, requiring efficient and coordinated university management. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between university management and academic quality at the School of Law and Political Science of the Universidad Tecnológica de los Andes in Apurímac, Peru. Using a quantitative, non-experimental, and cross-sectional approach, a validated questionnaire was administered to a sample of 94 faculty members and students, and the Spearman’s Rho coefficient was applied for correlational analysis. The results revealed positive and statistically significant correlations between university management and academic quality (r = 0.477), as well as with its dimensions: strategic management (r = 0.466), institutional support (r = 0.613), holistic education (r = 0.568), and academic outcomes (r = 0.446). These findings highlight that comprehensive management—integrating strategic planning, institutional resources, and educational processes—directly contributes to improving educational quality. It is concluded that strengthening management models through participatory approaches adapted to the local context is essential to move toward accreditation that reflects social impact. It is recommended that future research explore variables such as teaching innovation, community engagement, and intercultural approaches.
